NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE ALTERS
NORWEGIAN STAR ITINERARY THROUGH MARCH 31, 2002
New Ship Will Call at Hilo Instead of
Kona
Miami - January 23, 2002 - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today
announced Norwegian Star will call at Hilo instead of Kona,
Hawaii through March 31, 2002. The decision comes after the
successful testing of the operational feasibility of Hilo
for two weeks as well as receiving positive feedback from
passengers, who were able to spend more time on the Big Island
of Hawaii.
Additionally, the stop at Hilo allows passengers to experience
popular shore excursions including the Volcano National Park
Odyssey, featuring Mount Kilauea, one of the world's most
active volcanoes.
"Hilo offers us the opportunity to dock at the Big
Island of Hawaii instead of tendering to it, which allows
passengers to spend more time on the Big Island and more time
overall experiencing the beautiful Hawaiian Islands,"
said Colin Veitch, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.
"In Kona, inclement weather together with the absence
of shore tenders, has sometimes prevented us from performing
the tendering operation to our satisfaction. Hilo, in the
winter months at least, is the best alternative and we believe
our guests will be happy with the change."
Guests with pre-booked Kona shore excursions will be moved
over to similar tours where possible. In cases where this
is not feasible, pre-booked guests will have first preference
of available Hilo tours. Pre-booked guests can log on to www.ncl.com
for information on Hilo excursions and fax or e-mail their
choices to 305-436-4110 or ShoreExcursionsStar@ncl.com.
Or they may visit the Shore Excursions Desk upon arrival on
Norwegian Star.
