NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE DISCONTINUES 7-DAY,
ROUND-TRIP MAUI ITINERARY
Miami - February 15, 2002 - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today
announced it will discontinue all seven-day Maui sailings
beginning August 16, 2002. The line will continue to offer
seven-day sailings from Honolulu.
"Operating an embarkation and disembarkation in Lahaina,
which is a tendering port, has proven more challenging than
anticipated with the constraints of the small harbor itself
and also the lack of suitable shore-based tenders to facilitate
an efficient service," said Colin Veitch, president and
chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line. "The
Maui-embarkation option has proved popular and we are well
booked through August. We are currently embarking passengers
quite effectively in our alternative Maui port of Kahului
- which is a berthing port -- but as we would like in the
long term to retain the flexibility of calling in either Lahaina
or Kahului, we have made the decision not to sell any more
cruises embarking in Maui after August 16. We will of course
continue to offer embarkation in Honolulu every Sunday and
we are now offering passengers booked on the discontinued
Maui program an attractive option to sail from Honolulu instead."
NCL is offering guests currently booked and deposited on
any of the cancelled Maui embarkation sailings a four-category
upgrade (Inside-Inside or Outside-Outside) or up to a two-category
upgrade for those booked in an Oceanview stateroom with balcony.
In addition, NCL will offer rate protection on any other seven-day
roundtrip Honolulu sailing aboard Norwegian Star (Christmas
and New Year's voyages excluded). Non-deposited bookings will
be automatically cancelled unless the travel agent responsible
for the booking notifies NCL.
Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line is an international cruise
company and industry innovator that currently operates a fleet
of nine ships sailing to more than 140 ports around the world.
