year old from Ontario and a 14 year old from New York will
be featured aboard a future NCL cruise
February 20 – Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has chosen
Olivia Mann, a 9 year old, from Thornhill, Ontario and Stephanie
O’Neil, a 14 year old, from Brooklyn, New York as the
2003 winners of its new “Junior Star Seekers”
passenger talent competition. The Junior Star Seeker winners
will be featured entertainers aboard an NCL cruise.
Olivia Mann, a fourth-grader at Wilshire Public School,
performed her winning dance routine aboard Norwegian Star’s
August 17th sailing. Mann is a member of the 2003 Toronto
Raptors Mini Dance Pak and trains at The Dance Zone, Inc.
“I love to compete and perform and would like to thank
NCL for this acknowledgement as well a great, fun-filled cruise,”
Mann said.
Meanwhile, Stephanie O’Neil, an honor student at Bishop
Kearney High School, cruised on August 2nd on Norwegian Dawn
where she performed her winning song, “I Will Always
Love you.” O’Neil has performed in talent shows
and plays in neighboring schools, among being the weekly soloist
during services at her church. “This has been a wonderful
opportunity to share my passion for music with others, thank
you NCL” O’Neil said.
“The Junior Star Seeker program has been a huge success
and our guests really enjoy watching their kids take center
stage, as much as the kids enjoy performing,” said
Keith Cox, NCL’s vice president of entertainment and
onboard programming. “Some of our country’s most
talented performers are also some of our youngest and we’re
pleased to give America’s future stars a chance to exhibit
their untapped talent aboard our ships.”
NCL’s Junior Star Seeker program is offered as part
of NCL’s Kids’ Crew program. Junior Star Seeker
contestants perform a three-minute routine showcasing their
talent before a panel of judges consisting of the ship’s
hotel and cruise directors, plus a musician and a guest performer
from the ship’s entertainment staff. The judges select
the winners based on each performer’s entertainment
value and the audience’s reaction.
First-round winners, such as Olivia Mann and Stephanie O’Neil,
receive a complimentary NCL cruise and will be a featured
entertainer in a variety show where they will perform their
winning routine.
The Summer 2004 Junior Star Seeker program begins in June,
runs through August and will be offered on every NCL ship.
The program will feature more of the same great talent in
three separate categories: voice, dance and instrumental.
One winner for each category will be selected for the grand
prize of a family cruise, up to four members, and a spot on
the ship’s variety show to perform their winning routine.
