NORWEGIAN STAR CONTINUES ITS CALL IN KAHULUI
Seattle Cruise Innovator Doubling Capacity
to Alaska From Seattle
MIAMI - May 6, 2002 - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today announced
that Norwegian Star will continue to call at Kahului, Maui
instead of Lahaina as previously scheduled.
The decision comes after the successful testing of the operational
feasibility of Kahului on a temporary basis through May 3,
2002 as well as receiving positive feedback from passengers,
who were able to spend more time on the island of Maui.
"Lack of sufficient shore side tender availability
in Lahaina coupled with the extremely positive feedback from
our passengers has prompted us to make this temporary move
permanent," said Colin Veitch, president and CEO of Norwegian
Cruise Line. "The benefit of being alongside has been
significant, giving our passengers longer time to enjoy Maui."
The proximity of Kahului to many of Maui's most beautiful
sights allows passengers to experience popular shore excursions
including the Maui Downhill Bicycling, Tropical Hiking Adventure,
and a tram tour of Maui Tropical Plantation and Iao Valley.
In March, NCL changed the Hawaii port from Kona to Hilo for
the same reason.
