NCL GROUP INKS ONBOARD ENTERTAINMENT
DEAL WITH PARAMOUNT SHOW SERVICES INTERNATIONAL
New production shows featured aboard
Norwegian Sea and Marco Polo; new shows will debut aboard
Norwegian Majesty in October 2002
MIAMI - July 23, 2002 - Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and Orient
Lines are offering a dazzling new lineup of high-stepping
shows on three ships under a recently signed agreement with
Paramount Show Services International.
Paramount has created nine full-scale musical revues that
are featured in the main theaters aboard NCL's Norwegian Sea
and Orient Lines' Marco Polo. NCL will offer new Paramount-produced
shows aboard Norwegian Majesty beginning in October 2002.
"Norwegian Cruise Line and Orient Lines will continue
to offer our passengers the industry's best live musical entertainment
through our new agreement with Paramount Show Services International,"
said Andy Stuart, senior vice president of marketing and sales
for NCL and Orient Lines. "These dynamic shows will make
our guests' experience even more enjoyable."
Norwegian Sea passengers enjoy three new shows - "Night
of Stars," "Retro Active" and "Greased
Light'ning."
"Night of Stars" is a tribute
to the Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Emmy awards featuring a video
montage of classic film clips followed by Broadway songs from
the past and present. Next is a "TV Medley," a musical
tour through TV sitcom and commercial jingles accompanied
by video clips. The "Night of Stars" wraps up with
a medley of Janet Jackson hits including "Rhythm Nation"
and "Throb."
"Retro-Active" celebrates the
songs of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Opening with "Proud
Mary," and "Jumpin Jack Flash," this soul-stirring
revue features a "Major Motown Medley," a disco
sequence including "Last Dance" and "Hot Stuff,"
and a pop interlude featuring "Whip It" and "Weird
Science." The steamy "M&M" honors the Moulin
Rouge, Marilyn Monroe and Madonna, and the show concludes
with Kool & the Gang's "Celebrate."
"Greased Light'ning" highlights
the fabulous 1950s, transporting passengers to a sock hop
and prom with a medley of hit singles, love songs and Elvis
Presley standards from the decade.
Meanwhile, Marco Polo passengers also enjoy three new shows
- "Standing Room Only," "Hit Me With a Hot
Note" and "Music Makes the World Go 'Round."
"Standing Room Only" honors hits from Broadway and
London's West End district, including songs from "West
Side Story," and "A Chorus Line," plus the
memorable tunes "Lola," "Gotta Have Heart,"
"Big Spender," and "On Broadway."
"Hit Me With a Hot Note" is an
impressive medley of hits spanning periods in American music
from the swing songs of the 1930's to modern standards of
the 1990s. Along the way, guests enjoy a "Zoot Suit Riot,"
a tribute to the dynamic duo of Michael and Janet Jackson,
and the theme from "Titanic." The third show, "Music
Makes the World Go 'Round," is a catalogue of global
music, including a medley of 25 British standards, a selection
of Irish folk music (including "Oh Danny Boy"),
plus American radio hits and a sequence of sizzling Latin
tunes, ending with a stirring tribute to the national anthems
of several nations.
Paramount also has licensing rights to several popular Paramount
characters including The Busy World of Richard Scarry. NCL
will use many of these familiar figures to entertain passengers
aboard all of the company's ships carrying large numbers of
children.
The Jean Ann Ryan company will continue to produce shows
aboard Orient Lines' Crown Odyssey and NCL ships' Norwegian
Dream, Norwegian Wind, Norwegian Sky, Norwegian Sun, S/S Norway
and the new Norwegian Dawn, which debuts in December 2002.
