Norwegian Cruise Line Announces “Star Seeker” First Round Winners

Indiana barber and Colorado shipping manager will perform aboard NCL ships this fall

MIAMI, September 25, 2003 – Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has named Pat Catanzarite of South Bend, Ind. and Anton Mallard of Denver, Colo. as first round winners of its new “Star Seekers” passenger talent competition, which offers NCL guests the opportunity to wow their fellow cruisers and possibly win a full-time entertainment contract aboard an NCL ship!

Star Seekers is offered on voyages aboard all of NCL’s ships. Contestants deliver a three-minute routine showcasing their particular talent before an audience of fellow passengers, while a panel of judges selects winners based on each performer’s entertainment value and the crowd’s reaction. Judges include the ship’s hotel and cruise directors, plus a musician and a performer from the ship’s professional entertainment staff. First-round winners such as Catanzarite and Mallard, receive a complimentary NCL cruise during which they serve as a featured entertainer in a 45-minute cabaret show.

If they wow the crowd as guest entertainers, they will have the chance to become full-time featured performers onboard NCL ships with a professional contract.

Catanzarite, a barber, will be cruising as a stand-up comic on the Sept. 28, 2003 Bermuda cruise on Norwegian Majesty out of Boston. Said Catanzarite, “My speaking career started at my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary and I haven’t stopped talking since.”

Meanwhile, Mallard, a shipping manager, will be sailing as a singer on the Nov. 1, 2003 Western Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Wind out of Miami. Listing Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder among his main musical influences, Mallard said, “I am fortunate that people enjoy my singing and love for music as much as I do.”

“Star Seekers has been a runaway hit and also serves to spotlight the wealth of untapped talent among our guests from all over the country,” said Keith Cox, NCL’s vice president of entertainment and onboard programming. “We are looking forward to these two talented performers shows and many other future Star Seeker winners.”

Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line is an industry innovator. NCL recently announced its new brand, NCL America, under which its US flagged ships will operate. The company is currently building its first US Flagged ship, Pride of America, which begins inter-island Hawaii cruises on July 4, 2004.
