Sports Greats Set To Sail Aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines
Second Annual Sports Illustrated Afloat Cruise
Legendary S/S Norway Sails the Caribbean
with Sports Legends on Special December 4-11, 1999, Cruise
MIAMI, Fla., March 23, 1999-- A stellar lineup of sports
greats will hit the high seas aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines
legendary S/S Norway for the Second Annual Sports Illustrated
Afloat cruise, departing December 4, 1999.
Sports fans will meet their heroes, both past and present,
and enjoy a myriad of onboard activities as they sail from
Miami to the Eastern Caribbean islands of St. Maarten, St.
Johns, St. Thomas, and Great Stirrup Cay, NCLs
private island in the Bahamas.
Guests will go one-on-one with sports legends including baseballs
Ozzie Smith and Tom Glavine. Smith is a former St. Louis Cardinal
who holds 13 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and played for
the National League All-Star team 15 times. Atlanta Braves
pitcher Glavine has won two Cy Young Awards, in 1991 and 1998,
and has been selected to three All-Star teams. Sports fans
can talk hockey with Hall of Fame athlete Rod Gilbert, who
played for the New York Rangers for 16 years, and with Cam
Neely who played for the Boston Bruins for 13 years. Basketball
enthusiasts will meet former Los Angeles Laker James Worthy,
selected as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.
WNBA star and Olympic medalist Teresa Weatherspoon will talk
about playing on the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic teams and
her current success with the New York Liberty. She will be
joined by fellow WNBA All-Star Sheryl Swoopes of the two-time
championship team, Houston Comets.
Track and Field star Al Joyner will be the Master of Ceremony
for the cruise and will discuss what it was like to win a
gold medal in the triple jump at the 1984 Olympic Games---the
first American in 80 years to win a gold medal in the triple
jump.
More athletes will be added to the lineup over the
next few months.
The ultimate sports experience at sea, the SI Afloat
cruise brings together active and armchair athletes alike.
During the day guests may receive pitching and batting instruction,
have their golf swing analyzed, shoot hoops with stars and
slam dunk balls on the Norways full-size basketball
court, test their football skills against pro football stars
or participate in a slap shot tournament. Guests will also
have the opportunity to meet sports icons, participate in
lectures, chalk-talks, Q & A sessions, autograph sessions,
and compete in sports trivia contests.

Sports Illustrated Café
The Sports Illustrated Café, unveiled aboard the
Norway last December, has become a sports fans paradise
for relaxing and socializing amidst treasured memorabilia,
videos, and classic SI photography. This themed lounge features
large screen televisions ideal for watching live events and
CNN/SI -the 24 hour sports network. Additionally, NCLs
existing Sports Bars on its other ships are also slated to
be converted into SI Cafés in the coming years.
The Norway: NCLs Flagship
With its variety of state-of-the-art sports and
fitness facilities, the Norway is the perfect site for the
SI Afloat cruise. The last of the 1,000-foot ocean liners
in service today, the Norway features a 6,000-square-foot
Roman Spa which includes 16 treatment rooms, cardiovascular
exercise equipment, sauna, massage, aquacise pool, and Jacuzzi;
a 360-degree outdoor promenade for jogging or walking; full
court basketball; volleyball; golf driving net; and a 4,000-square-foot
Fitness Center.
Cruise-only fares for the SI Afloat cruise start at $819
per person, based on double occupancy, including port charges.
