Guests cruise into the world of wine aboard the S/S Norway

Norwegian Cruise Line’s "Wine and Romance" Cruise Features Seminars and Tastings with Expert Oenologists from the United States and Great Britain

Miami Fla., March 25, 1999 -- Norwegian Cruise Line combines the enjoyment of fine wines with the romance of Europe’s great civilizations aboard the S/S Norway’s upcoming 14-day "Wine and Romance" cruise. Departing from Barcelona, Spain, on June 6, 1999, guests are offered the opportunity to enrich their knowledge of wine through the expert guidance of onboard guest lecturers and wine aficionados Joseph Ward, wine editor of Condé Nast Traveler; Jilly Goolden, host of BBC Television’s "Food and Drink;" and Malcolm Gluck, wine correspondent for The Guardian.

During the Norway’s "Wine and Romance" cruise, guests may also glimpse the age-old art of European wine-making during shore excursions to well-known vineyards in several of the great wine-producing regions of France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The unique history of the elegant Norway adds to the richness and enjoyment of the cruise.

Special for the "Wine and Romance" cruise, Condé Nast Traveler lends their acclaimed wine editor, Joseph Ward, to conduct three onboard wine tastings and seminars focusing on Cabernet Sauvignons from around the world, most available on ships in the NCL fleet. Ward is an industry expert whose articles have appeared in numerous publications on both sides of the Atlantic, including The Washington Post, The International Herald Tribune, and Smart Money. Ward dedicates four months each year to visiting wine regions, and talking and tasting with prominent vintners.

The "Wine and Romance" cruise aboard the Norway features guest lecturers from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), including Jilly Goolden, who hosts the television network’s "Food and Drink" program. Goolden, who has published books on wine and has contributed articles to London’s leading daily newspapers including The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph and Mail on Sunday, will conduct several seminars and tastings while on board.

Rounding out the lineup of experts will be Malcolm Gluck, wine correspondent for The Guardian, one of London’s top daily newspapers, and consulting wine editor for Sainsbury’s, a leading British consumer magazine. Gluck writes three annual wine guides including the best-selling Superplonk, and has hosted his own television show.

Norwegian Cruise Line’s 14-day "Wine and Romance" cruise from Barcelona to Southampton onboard the Norway departs Barcelona on June 6, 1999, and calls at Florence/Pisa, Italy; Palma de Majorca, Spain; Malaga, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Bordeaux, France, and Le Havre, France.
