Four Months Prior To M/S Norwegian Skys
Maiden Voyage, Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils New Amenities
And Services
News From the Shipyard Where Construction
of New M/S Norwegian Sky is Nearly Complete
BREMERHAVEN, Germany, May 17, 1999 Norwegian Cruise
Line today announced an update on the 2,002-guest M/S Norwegian
Sky, which will debut August 9, 1999. The latest news not
only updates the construction process, but also reveals a
variety of amenities and services previously not disclosed.
"We are pleased with the progress the shipyard is making,
and anxiously anticipating delivery of the Norwegian Sky,"
said Art Sbarsky, NCLs executive vice president. "The
ship is coming along nicely, and will offer the best of traditional
cruising as well as innovative dining and enhanced amenities
and services."
Just four months prior to her maiden voyage, the ship is
shaping up right on schedule at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in
Bremerhaven, Germany, under the direction of NCLs newbuilding
team and noted marine architects Tillberg Design of Sweden.
At this point, all staterooms and the ships focal point,
a glass-domed atrium, have been installed. The tiles in the
pool have all been fitted, and all bars, galleys, and pantries
are installed. Final touches are now being made on the ships
teak wood decks.
Dining options abound aboard Norwegian Sky. In Ciao Chow
Restaurant, everything from gourmet pizza to potstickers are
among the tempting choices in this casual Italian and Chinese
eatery. Complimentary tapas will be available in Gatsbys
Wine Bar. Tableside cooking, featuring Mediterranean cuisine,
will be offered in Le Bistro, where a new dinner menu will
be implemented and specialty desserts such as chocolate fondue
and flaming cherries jubilee will be served. When Norwegian
Sky begins Caribbean itineraries at the end of 1999, the ship
will be the first in the NCL fleet to offer new Millennium
menus that will be available in five languages. New menus
are also being created for special spa cuisine offerings and
regionalized menu specialties will be featured as well.
In addition to NCLs popular Chocoholic Buffet, dining
theme nights and high tea with fresh scones, guests will enjoy
an array of enticing options from "food action stations"
located in the Garden Café and Great Outdoor Café. Special
breakfast, lunch and snack offerings will vary each day and
will include such options as omelets, crepes, waffles, paella,
pasta, stir-fry, fish or meat carving and Oriental noodle
soup, A 24-hour room service menu, which includes pizza, is
always available for guests wishing to "order in."
Food is only a small part of the enhanced amenities available
on Norwegian Sky. A special martini menu in the Windjammer
Bar provides the ultimate in beverage service. Freshly rolled
and premium cigars will be offered in Churchills Cigar
Club, located adjacent to Windjammer Bar. Guests searching
for world records can pay homage to the longest cabaret bar
at sea, located in Checkers Cabaret. Those seeking some savoir
faire at sea should head for the Atrium Bar, where caviar,
pâté foie gras, champagne and premium vodkas will be available.
Top class service continues out on deck, where the "Skymobile"
beverage cart, a specially converted golf cart, will make
drink deliveries directly to guests, allowing for seamless
relaxation. And when Norwegian Sky sails in the Caribbean,
pool attendants will be on deck to offer guests a spritz of
either refreshing Evian water or Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion,
as well as cold face towels and fresh sliced fruit.
Each day aboard the Norwegian Sky, guests will be treated
to a different fresh fruit of the day, noted by colorful flags
flying out on deck. Delicious drinks will also be available
featuring the same daily fruit flavors. All of Norwegian Skys
14 penthouses will have complimentary butler service and an
exclusive room service menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
All penthouse balconies feature specially designed teak wood
furniture for maximum comfort. In addition, guests in staterooms
with balconies may have breakfast served al fresco on their
own veranda.
Two golf nets, a baseball batting cage and full-court basketball
will delight the sports fans onboard. Those who want to "surf"
the Internet or need to stay in touch while at sea, modem
connections will be available in all staterooms. For an extra
charge, guests can go online on computers located in the Internet
Café located within the ships Coffee Bar. There will
also be a "Skycam" on the bridge, which will be
downloaded onto a web site so guests friends and family
at home can track where the ship has visited.
The ships Photo Gallery will offer special features
including two "Astroflash" booths that can provide
guests with a personalized astrological report including horoscope
analysis. Ship photographers will have digital cameras enabling
guests to e-mail photos home to friends and family while still
at sea. Both services are available at an additional fee.
In a new joint venture, exclusive retailers Colombian Emeralds
International and dutyfree.com will manage all gift shops
aboard the Norwegian Sky enticing guests with an assortment
of elegant jewelry, brand name watches, fine china and crystal.
As an added feature, guests will enjoy the opportunity to
view different patterns and designs through a free standing
kiosk, with home delivery available. In addition, liquor selections
can be viewed in display cases in the shopping arcade, and
guests can order through room service, with delivery in the
stateroom.
Recognized as an innovator in onboard and onshore cruise
programming, Norwegian Cruise Line is pioneering another industry
"first" with the premiere of the first-ever Cameron
Mackintosh musical production at sea. "Hey Mr. Producer:
The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh" will feature
highlights from some of the legendary musicals Mackintosh
has produced over the last 30 years including "Cats,"
"Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon," and "The
Phantom of the Opera."
Captivating full-length Broadway musicals, sparkling cabaret
acts, illusionists and comedians further add to NCLs
stellar entertainment line-up. For a taste of Broadway at
sea, Jean Ann Ryan Productions adds to Norwegian Skys
dream playbill with high-energy musical productions including
"Runnin Wild," a Fosse salute to Big Band
and Swing and "Sea Legs Y2K, Cirque Millennium."
Guests will wish for never-ending nights when Jane L. Powell
& Company perform jazz and pop favorites on Norwegian
Sky for the latter part of the year.

NCL cruise experience offering outstanding dining, first-rate
entertainment, attentive service, and luxurious spa facilities.
