MIAMI, Fla., July 2, 1999 Recognized as an innovator
in onboard and onshore cruise programming, Norwegian Cruise
Line is pioneering another industry "first" when
its newest ship, the M/S Norwegian Sky, debuts in August 1999
featuring the first-ever production of "Hey! Mr. Producer,"
The Musical World of Cameron Mackintosh. The production will
feature highlights from some of the legendary musicals Sir
Cameron Mackintosh has produced over the last 30 years including
"Miss Saigon," "Oliver," "Les Miserables,"
"Little Shop of Horrors," and "Oklahoma!"
This production is adapted from the enormously successful
royal gala performance of the same name presented at the Lyceum
Theatre in London for Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of
Edinburgh. "Hey! Mr. Producer" will be featured
aboard the Norwegian Sky during her maiden voyage and inaugural
season.
"We are honored and excited to continue NCLs long
history of industry innovation by debuting "Hey! Mr.
Producer" for the first time ever on the high seas,"
said Art Sbarsky, NCLs executive vice president. "This
association with Sir Cameron Mackintosh is particularly gratifying
since NCL was the first cruise line to offer full scale Broadway
shows within state-of-the-art, high-tech theaters at sea,"
Sbarsky added.
"Hey! Mr. Producer" is directed by Ken Caswell,
whose work spans 15 West End productions of plays and musicals.
He has directed productions of "Oliver," "Showboat,"
and "Black Comedy," as well as a 10th
Anniversary Concert of "Les Miserables" at the Albert
Hall.
Scenic designer for "Hey! Mr. Producer" is Andy
Walmsley, designer for the West End productions and Broadway
productions of "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story"
and "Blood Brothers." The productions lighting
designer is Marcia Madeira, whose designs have illuminated
the Broadway musicals "My One and Only" and "The
Music Man." Ms. Madeira has been the principal lighting
designer for over 30 productions aboard 12 cruise ships for
Jean Ann Ryan productions. She received a Tony nomination
and won the Drama Desk Award for "NINE."
"Hey! Mr. Producer," The Musical World of Cameron
Mackintosh is produced by Jean Ann Ryan Productions for the
Norwegian Sky.
Captivating full-length Broadway musicals, sparkling cabaret
acts, illusionists and comedians further add to NCLs
stellar entertainment line-up. For a taste of Broadway at
sea, Jean Ann Ryan Productions adds to Norwegian Skys
dream playbill with high-energy musical productions including
"Runnin Wild," a Fosse salute to Big Band
and Swing and "Sea Legs Cirque." Guests will wish
for never-ending nights when Jane L. Powell & Company
perform jazz and pop favorites on Norwegian Sky for the latter
part of the year.
The 80,000-ton, Norwegian Sky is currently under construction
at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany, under
the direction of NCLs new building team and noted marine
architects Tillberg Design of Sweden.
The Norwegian Sky celebrates its maiden voyage with a 10-day
"Solar Eclipse Voyage," featuring space hero, Buzz
Aldrin, hosting the August 9, 1999 inaugural sailing, roundtrip
from London (Dover), England.
Among the Norwegian Skys many features are a two-story
main show lounge with proscenium stage, a cabaret lounge equipped
with the longest bar at sea, several intimate gathering spots
including a wine bar, champagne bar, Sports Bar, schooner
bar and a cigar club, Observatory lounge with picture windows,
