Norwegian Cruise Line Takes On-Time Delivery Of M/S Norwegian Sky

New Ship to Set Sail on Maiden Voyage on Schedule

BREMERHAVEN, Germany, July 28, 1999 – Norwegian Cruise Line took on-time delivery today of its new $300-million, 80,000-ton cruise ship, M/S Norwegian Sky, from the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. The occasion was commemorated with a champagne reception and luncheon onboard and the raising of the NCL flag.

"The delivery of this ship is the final element in the turnaround of Norwegian Cruise Line and the company is now re-established as one of the four major cruise lines," said Geir Aune, NCL’s President and CEO.

The Norwegian Sky celebrates its maiden voyage on schedule with a 10-day "Solar Eclipse Voyage," hosted by space hero, Buzz Aldrin, sailing roundtrip from London (Dover), England. As previously guaranteed by Norwegian Cruise Line, the Norwegian Sky’s maiden voyage will depart on August 9, 1999, as originally scheduled.

"The Norwegian Sky is an extraordinarily beautiful vessel whose exquisite interiors, innovative dining options, enhanced amenities and services will wow travel agents and guests alike," said Art Sbarsky, NCL’s executive vice president. "The seamless, on-time delivery of the Norwegian Sky demonstrates Norwegian Cruise Line’s long-standing commitment to the travel trade."

Following an 11-day "Scandinavian Highlights" cruise and a 14-day transatlantic sailing, Norwegian Sky will arrive in New York on September 13 and in Boston on September 17 to host numerous inaugural activities for the travel trade. The ship will then offer a series of ten-day Canada/New England fall foliage cruises sailing roundtrip from Boston.

Following the Canada/New England voyages, the Norwegian Sky will reposition to Miami to operate a winter schedule of alternating eastern and western seven-day Caribbean cruises from that port beginning November 14, 1999. In summer of 2000, Norwegian Sky will offer round-trip Alaska cruises sailing from the vessel’s summer home port of Seattle.

The Norwegian Sky’s interiors feature a towering eight-deck-high, glass-domed atrium, two pools, five whirlpools, a separate children’s splash pool with waterfall, an Internet Café, and a two-story main show lounge with proscenium stage. Other amenities include Checker’s Cabaret lounge equipped with the longest cabaret bar at sea, several intimate gathering spots including Gatsby’s Wine Bar, The Atrium Bar, Sports Bar, Windjammer Bar and Churchill’s Cigar Club, Monte Carlo Casino and shopping arcade. Public areas also include a children’s playroom and separate teen center, part of the line’s complimentary "Kid’s Crew" children’s program, video arcade, full service spa, exercise gym with separate aerobics area, conference room, library, card room, and beauty salon.

Dining options include three main dining rooms, four casual eateries including Ciao Chow, a casual eatery offering everything from fresh pasta to potstickers, Le Bistro, Garden Café and the Great Outdoor Café, as well as a complimentary 24-hour room service menu.
