Norwegian Cruise Line Poses Challenge To ‘Name That Ship’

NCL Calls for Entries in "Name The Ship Contest" For New 2,000-Guest Vessel

MIAMI, Fla., December 13, 1999 – Norwegian Cruise Line has announced a "Name the Ship Contest," open to Latitudes members (NCL’s past guests), travel agents and the general public alike, to provide a fitting moniker for its magnificent 2,000-guest vessel scheduled for delivery September 1, 2001. The 80,000-ton ship will be similar in design and size to NCL’s newest vessel, the Norwegian Sky, which recently made its debut.

"Our goal is to find the perfect name for Norwegian Cruise Line’s extraordinary new ship," said Art Sbarsky, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "By inviting the public to help us name our new ship, we are hoping to cast the widest net possible in our search and therefore discover the most befitting name."

The new ship’s interiors will feature a towering eight-deck-high, glass-domed atrium, several alternative dining options, two pools, five whirlpools, separate children’s splash pool with waterfall, an Internet Café and a two-story main show lounge with proscenium stage.

Other amenities will include several intimate gathering spots including a wine bar, sports bar, casino and shopping arcade. Public areas also include a children’s playroom and separate teen center, part of the line’s complimentary "Kid’s Crew" children’s program, video arcade, full service spa, exercise gym with separate aerobics area, conference room, library, card room and beauty salon.

Those interested in entering the contest can visit NCL’s website at www.ncl.com/contest for an entry form for the "Name the Ship Contest" and a detailed listing of entry guidelines. An original 50-words or less essay on "why you chose that name" is one of the entry requirements. Entries can also be sent to "Name The Ship Contest," P.O. Box 149075, Coral Gables, FL 33114-9075. Entries must be received by February 15, 2000. Entrants can find a complete list of entry guidelines and conditions for participation at NCL’s website at www.ncl.com/contest.

Three First Honorable Mentions will each be awarded one seven-day Caribbean cruise for two on any Norwegian Cruise Line ship.
